Duomo di Milano Address & Directions: How to Get There

Tram: Lines 3 and 15 — the 15 is one of Milan's classic routes, running right through the historic centre — both stop within a short walk of Piazza del Duomo.

Bus: Line 60 serves the Duomo area from several central neighbourhoods.

Tickets for trams and buses are the same as for the Metro — buy them at metro stations, tobacconists, or the ATM app — and are valid for 90 minutes across all city transport, including one Metro ride.

From Linate Airport: the M4 (Blue Line) metro connects Linate directly to San Babila in about 12 minutes. From San Babila, continue one stop on the M1 (Red Line) to Duomo, or walk down the pedestrianised Corso Vittorio Emanuele II.

Bus alternative: the ATM 73 bus also runs between Linate and Piazza Diaz (right by Duomo) via San Babila, every 10 minutes from 5:35 a.m. to 12:35 a.m. The M4 is faster — about 35 minutes on the bus versus 12 on the metro to San Babila — but the 73 is a fine option if you land after the Blue Line's early-morning start.

A standard €2.20 ATM ticket covers either option.

Driving directly to Piazza del Duomo isn't possible — the square sits inside Area C, Milan's restricted traffic zone covering the historic centre, active Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. (free on weekends and public holidays). Whether entry is free, paid, or restricted depends on your vehicle's emission class — check and pay through the official MyAreaC portal before you drive in.

Parking: there's no parking in the square itself. The closest paid garages are Autosilo Diaz on Piazza Armando Diaz (about 3 minutes' walk) and the Silvio Pellico garage nearby (about 4 minutes' walk).

Taxis and ride-hailing services can drop passengers close to the square, which is often the simplest option if you're carrying luggage or travelling as a group. The ATM Infopoint, in the mezzanine of Duomo metro station, can help with Area C questions in person.

Milan is well set up for cyclists, and the Duomo area has docking points for several services.

BikeMi is the city's official station-based bike share, with docks around Piazza del Duomo offering standard bikes, e-bikes, and child-seat options.

Free-floating bikes and e-scooters from operators including Dott, Lime, RideMovi and Bird can usually be picked up and left nearby too — availability shifts as operators change, so check whichever app you use for what's actually parked close by on the day.

If you're staying in central Milan, walking to the Duomo is genuinely pleasant — the last stretch is pedestrian-only.

From Brera or Porta Venezia, plan on roughly 15–20 minutes; from Navigli, closer to 20–25 minutes. All three routes pass through some of Milan's most walkable streets, so it's rarely a chore.

The final approach through Corso Vittorio Emanuele II or Via Torino — both pedestrianised — is a good way to arrive with the cathedral's façade opening up in front of you rather than stepping straight out of a metro exit.
